Go Skateboarding Day in Kabul

Skateistan is pleased to announce that we're organizing the 2nd annual International Go Skateboarding Day (GSD) in Kabul event this year on June 21st. Last year we put on the first ever GSD in Kabul, with more than 30 boys and girls taking part in a competition and skate session through the city’s streets. Go Skateboarding Day is an international holiday recognizing the value of skateboarding for youth around the world.

We’ll be skateboarding through the streets from Mekroyan fountain, where Skateistan was born, to the Skateistan park that was completed late last year. Upon arrival at the skatepark there will be a competition and all-day skate session, followed by a live Skype conference between Skateistan and the Skate to Kabul supporters in Basel, Switzerland. The skaters in Basel have collected donations for Skateistan and are taking part in their own GSD event where they’ll skateboard along the streets for a 5000 metre distance to represent the 5000 kilometre distance between Basel and Kabul.

This year marks the first GSD event to take place in the recently completed Skateistan park, which should bring out many of our 300 students, who love any excuse to get on a skateboard.
